Chandigarh: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and Science and Technology, Satish Sharma, on Thursday held a series of meetings with Punjab government officials to discuss issues affecting mutton traders and explore cooperation in animal husbandry, technology and anti-drug measures.
According to an official statement, Sharma met Punjab’s Animal and Sheep Husbandry Minister, the Chief Secretary, the Secretary, Science and Technology, and the Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
The statement said the discussions primarily focused on resolving issues faced by mutton dealers, particularly those affecting the movement of livestock between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharma urged coordinated action to facilitate the smooth movement of livestock while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Punjab government, according to the statement, directed the concerned departments to take steps to address the issues raised.
The meetings also explored cooperation in livestock management, disease control, scientific breeding practices and veterinary services through the exchange of best practices.
In separate discussions with senior officials, Sharma reviewed opportunities for collaboration in science and technology, digital governance, innovation and research to improve public service delivery.
The minister also discussed Punjab’s anti-drug initiatives, including its community-based approach, Village Defence Committees and a 24×7 monitoring mechanism. According to the statement, Sharma said these measures would be examined for possible adaptation in Jammu and Kashmir as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against drug abuse.
Sharma thanked the Punjab government for its response and said the Jammu and Kashmir government would continue to work with stakeholders to address the concerns of mutton traders, the statement added.
