The Secretary of the Legislative Assembly briefed the committee on its mandate, powers and the legislative provisions governing government assurances. He said assurances, promises and undertakings made by ministers on the floor of the House, as well as directions issued by the Speaker, Deputy Speaker or Chairman involving government action, are monitored by the committee until compliance.

During the meeting, members raised issues relating to the Public Works Department, particularly concerning infrastructure and development works.

The Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (R&B), assured the committee that the issues flagged by members would be examined and addressed in a phased manner, subject to the availability of resources and administrative requirements.

Chairman Ali Mohammad Sagar said the committee played an important role in ensuring executive accountability by monitoring assurances made on the floor of the House. He emphasised the need for timely implementation of such commitments to uphold the credibility of the Legislature.

The committee also directed the Additional Chief Secretary to submit constituency-wise and scheme-wise details of funds allocated and released under various schemes at its next meeting to facilitate a comprehensive review, the statement said.
