Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Tuesday demanded an apology from the BJP and its national president Nitin Nabin over a person dressing as Lord Hanuman and dancing ahead of his cavalcade at a recent event.
The party alleged that the act hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and amounted to an insult.
The Congress also expressed concerns over the atrocities being committed by the Pakistan army and police on the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
“The BJP and its national president should tender a public apology for the display of a person dressed as Lord Hanuman dancing ahead of Nabin’s cavalcade, as it hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and insulted the religion, “J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President Raman Bhalla said during a press conference.
Bhalla asked Prime Minister Modi to tell American President “and his friend” Donald Trump to restrain Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir from committing atrocities on innocent people in PoK.
“The deteriorating situation in PoK and murder of innocents by Pakistani forces is condemnable. Centre government should immediately apply diplomatic channels to put international pressure on Pakistan as PoK is an integral part of India,” said Bhalla, who was joined by former minister Mula Ram, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Ex-MLC in-charge Headquarters Ved Mahajan
Ravinder Sharma questioned the BJP chief over the alleged betrayal in granting statehood after getting a huge mandate from Jammu.
“Why didn’t the BJP president utter a word on the restoration of statehood?” he asked, adding that the saffron party fulfilled the dreams of Shayama Prasad Mukherjee at the cost of “dreams, identity, status, dignity and rights” of the J&K people, especially the youths who are losing jobs, land and resources.
The party leaders also expressed concern over flash floods disrupting traffic and other damage in Batote, Doda and Kishtwar regions, urging the government to take up relief, rehabilitation and restoration work on a war footing.
The Congress also expressed concerns over the people’s resentment over the Ram temple donation embezzlement case, demanding a Supreme Court-monitored probe and declaring all the details of major donations and gifts.
The party leaders said all those involved in the “heinous crime” should be exposed, booked and punished through a high-level, impartial, independent probe headed by a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge.
