PAC reviews C&AG audit observations on Jal Shakti Department

Committee seeks detailed report on audit paras within 15 days

Srinagar: Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Surjeet Singh Slathia, on Wednesday chaired a meeting at the Assembly Secretariat to examine Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) audit observations relating to the Jal Shakti Department, including its Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) wings.

The meeting was attended by legislators Mubarik Gul, Shamim Firdous, Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo), Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi), Ranbir Singh Pathania, Choudhary Mohammad Akram and Vikram Randhawa. Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, Shaleen Kabra, Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandit, and senior officers of the department were also present.

The Committee held detailed deliberations on the audit observations and examined the issues highlighted in the C&AG audit paras.

Following the discussions, the Committee, based on the assurance of the Additional Chief Secretary, directed the department to submit a comprehensive report on the audit observations discussed during the meeting within 15 days for further examination.

Members of the Committee also offered suggestions and recommendations aimed at improving the functioning, transparency and accountability of the Jal Shakti Department.
