Udhampur: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday conducted a public outreach and grievance redressal camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Majalta, where residents raised a range of civic and developmental issues, including healthcare, road connectivity, drinking water supply and housing benefits.
Former Panchayati Raj Institution representatives and local residents demanded the establishment of a trauma centre at Manwal, augmentation of drinking water facilities, construction and upgradation of roads, construction of the Manwal-Pingla Mata road, inclusion of left-out beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and resolution of issues concerning tribal communities.
Responding to the grievances, Choudhary assured the public that all genuine issues would be addressed in a time-bound manner. Several complaints were resolved on the spot after directions were issued to the concerned officers. He also asked officials to organise awareness camps to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are informed about and able to access various government welfare schemes.
The Deputy Chief Minister said such outreach programmes were aimed at resolving day-to-day public issues at the grassroots level through direct interaction with people. He urged officers to work with dedication and ensure prompt disposal of public grievances within their respective departments.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to people-centric governance, Choudhary said the administration led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was focused on improving service delivery and addressing public concerns on priority. He directed officials to record all demands raised during the camp and take necessary steps for their early redressal.
He also called upon departments to ensure effective implementation of government policies, welfare schemes and developmental programmes at the grassroots level.
The Deputy Chief Minister acknowledged the Centre’s financial support for developmental projects in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the funds were contributing significantly to the region’s progress.
Later, Choudhary inspected ongoing development works in Majalta and reviewed their progress. During the visit, he interacted with officials and local residents and discussed issues related to welfare and development in the area.
