Committee on Subordinate Legislation meets at Assembly Secretariat

SRINAGAR: A meeting of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation was held at the Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday under the chairmanship of its Chairman and MLA, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan.

Members of the Committee, including legislators Hilal Akbar Lone, Dr Bharat Bhushan, Peerzada Feroze Ahmad, Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh and Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan highlighted the role of the Committee in scrutinising subordinate legislation and ensuring that rules framed by various departments remain consistent with the provisions and intent of the parent legislation.

He said the Committee plays an important role in strengthening legislative oversight and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

The Chairman urged members to actively participate in the Committee’s proceedings and contribute towards identifying and addressing discrepancies in departmental rules and regulations.

During the meeting, members deliberated on various issues related to the functioning of the Committee and discussed the roadmap for examination of departmental rules in future sittings.

The Committee decided to take up the rules pertaining to the Health Department for detailed examination during its next meeting.
