Uri: Human Aid Society (HAS) organised a humanitarian outreach programme in the border villages of Baghroto and Busgran in Uri, during which it handed over a newly constructed house to a vulnerable family, inaugurated livelihood-based poultry units for women and released its Annual Report 2025–26.
The programme was attended by K M Nithin Kuttappa, Commander of the 12 Infantry Brigade, as the chief guest.
At the outset, Aiman Naseer, an intern from Manipal University, presented an overview of the organisation’s humanitarian interventions in Uri during the past year, highlighting rehabilitation efforts undertaken for families affected by Operation Sindoor and other development initiatives in border areas.
During a visit to Baghroto village, Brigadier Kuttappa handed over the keys of a newly constructed house to a vulnerable family comprising a bedridden patient, his wife and their daughter. The previous structure had become uninhabitable and was replaced with a new dwelling consisting of a hall, kitchen, store room and bathroom. According to the organisation, the project was completed through resources mobilised by Human Aid Society without external funding support.
Later at Busgran, the Brigadier inaugurated mini poultry livelihood units established under the organisation’s livelihood programme. Implemented in collaboration with Indian Development Society (IDS), Chicago, the initiative aims to provide sustainable income opportunities to 25 educated but unemployed women in the area.
On the occasion, Brigadier Kuttappa also released the Human Aid Society Annual Report 2025–26, documenting the organisation’s humanitarian, educational, rehabilitation and community development initiatives, particularly in Uri and other border regions.
During the visit, the Brigadier also inspected a government school where students are currently studying in temporary tin-shed accommodation. Local residents highlighted the need for a permanent school building, while a community member offered land for the proposed facility. Brigadier Kuttappa assured that the proposal would be examined and also promised immediate support in the form of electric fans to help students cope with the prevailing heatwave.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Kuttappa appreciated the efforts of Human Aid Society and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to supporting welfare and development initiatives in border areas.
Human Aid Society Chairman Bashir Ahmad Mir thanked the Army officers and participants for their support and engagement with local communities.
The event was attended by HAS Vice Chairman Ghulam Mohammad Sofi, former Secretary Naseer Ahmad Rather, executive members and community representatives from various border villages of Uri.
