Srinagar/Ganderbal: Security preparations for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026) gathered momentum on Friday as police conducted a mock drill at the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam and held a high-level coordination meeting with Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) officers in Ganderbal.
In Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with CAPF and other stakeholder agencies, carried out a mock drill at the Nunwan Base Camp to test preparedness and response capabilities in dealing with potential contingencies during the Yatra. The exercise simulated various emergency scenarios and focused on swift response, effective communication, evacuation procedures, crowd management and inter-agency coordination.
Personnel from Anantnag Police, CAPF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, the Health Department and other agencies participated in the exercise. Senior officers monitored the drill and issued directions to further strengthen preparedness and operational coordination.
Meanwhile, in Ganderbal, police convened a coordination meeting with nodal officers of CAPF at the District Police Office to review security arrangements and logistical preparations for the pilgrimage. The meeting was chaired by SSP Ganderbal Sudhanshu Dhama.
Discussions centred on deployment plans, traffic management, emergency response mechanisms, communication systems and pilgrim facilitation measures. The SSP stressed the need to ensure all essential facilities at Baltal Base Camp and other camping locations, including accommodation, sanitation, medical assistance, drinking water, power supply and other logistical support.
Officers also reviewed contingency plans and emphasised maintaining a high level of vigilance, preparedness and coordination among all agencies to ensure the safe, secure and smooth conduct of SANJY-2026.
