The development is being seen as a major achievement for Jammu and Kashmir, with Vijay Saraf and Kuldeep Handoo being entrusted with key responsibilities in the South Asian body in recognition of their contribution towards the promotion and development of Wushu in the region and across South Asia.

During the Congress, it was also decided that the South Asian Wushu Championship 2027 will be organised after a gap of two years along with coaching and judging seminars prior to the championship.

The newly elected SAWF President Bhupender Singh Bajwa assured that qualifying athletes from South Asian countries would be invited to train with the Indian national Wushu team in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games to strengthen regional cooperation and raise the standard of Wushu in South Asia.

Vijay Saraf said he would work tirelessly to take Wushu in Jammu and Kashmir to greater heights and expressed confidence that athletes from the Union Territory could win laurels at the forthcoming Asian Games with adequate government support.

Kuldeep Handoo expressed gratitude to the Wushu Association of India for supporting his candidature for the prestigious position.

Being an “A” Grade International Judge and head of the Referees and Judges Commission in India, Handoo said his focus would be on technically strengthening the South Asian region and elevating SAWF standards in the shortest possible time.

The office bearers of the Wushu Association of India congratulated the newly elected members and wished them success in their new assignments.

Earlier, Suhel Ahmed was selected as Executive Board Member of SAWF and also appointed Head of the Constitutional Committee.

Besides, Sudershan and Shamboo Seth were elected as members of the Constitutional Committee and Traditional Committee of SAWF respectively.
