Srinagar: Continuing efforts under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan (NMJKA), Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday organised a series of anti-drug awareness programmes, rallies, search operations and preventive activities across Pulwama, Baramulla, Awantipora and Bandipora districts.
In Pulwama, police in collaboration with the district administration organised a massive anti-drug awareness rally at Litter village as part of the 100-day anti-drug campaign.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, youth volunteers and members of civil society, who joined hands to spread awareness against drug abuse and promote the vision of a healthy and drug-free society.
Participants carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the harmful effects of narcotics and the need for collective community action to eradicate drug addiction. They also pledged to spread awareness within their localities and work towards safeguarding the younger generation from substance abuse.
Meanwhile, Women Police Station Pulwama conducted a public awareness drive under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. During the programme, vehicles were stopped outside the police station and drivers and passengers were sensitised about the harmful consequences of drug abuse.
Police officials highlighted the devastating impact of narcotics on youth, families and society, and urged the public to actively support the fight against drugs.
In another operation under the anti-drug campaign, Police Station Rajpora conducted intensive searches at the residences of suspected drug peddlers in Rajpora. Vehicle checking was also carried out in the area to maintain surveillance on suspicious activities and strengthen preventive measures against drug trafficking.
Police appealed to parents, teachers, community leaders and members of civil society to remain vigilant and cooperate in efforts aimed at curbing the drug menace.
In Baramulla, an anti-drug awareness programme and rally were organised at Sharkwara Wagoora by Civil Society Sharkwara in collaboration with Baramulla Police under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The programme, chaired by Mohd Ashraf Khan, witnessed active participation from local residents, youth and students from nearby educational institutions.
Speakers on the occasion stressed the importance of community participation, youth awareness and coordinated efforts in building a healthy and drug-free society. Students actively participated in the rally and raised slogans against drug abuse.
The programme concluded with a wild bung destruction drive at Sharkwara as part of ongoing efforts to eradicate narcotic cultivation and strengthen the anti-drug campaign in the district.
Meanwhile, in Awantipora, police organised a drug awareness programme at MTQ Public High School Wuyan to educate students and the public about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Teachers, students and parents participated in the programme, during which speakers highlighted the social and health-related consequences of drug addiction and stressed the collective responsibility of society in combating the menace.
In Bandipora, police organised an interactive awareness programme-cum-rally at Government Higher Secondary School Chuntimulla, Sumlar, under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan.
The programme witnessed active participation from students, teachers and members of civil society, reflecting growing public support for anti-drug initiatives.
During the session, officials highlighted the legal provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sensitised participants about the serious legal consequences associated with drug trafficking and substance abuse.
Addressing the gathering, the Duty Officer of Police Post Sumlar highlighted the harmful impact of drugs on individuals, families and society, and urged youth to stay away from narcotics and actively spread awareness in their communities.
Police reiterated its commitment towards intensifying awareness campaigns, preventive initiatives and community outreach programmes under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan to ensure a safer and healthier society.
