SHOPIAN: In a major crackdown against the illegal trade of habit-forming drugs, joint teams of the Drug Control Departments of Shopian and Pulwama seized 6,000 capsules of Pregabalin 300 mg worth around ₹2.53 lakh during an operation in Shopian district.
Officials said the consignment was being transported through illegal means for unlawful sale and distribution in the district.
The seizure comes in continuation of leads developed during a recent operation at Batpora Shopian, where 200 capsules of Pregabalin 300 mg had earlier been recovered.
Acting on specific inputs generated by the Drug Control Office Shopian, joint teams from the Drug Control Departments of Shopian and Pulwama, in coordination with police authorities, launched the operation and intercepted the suspected consignment.
Authorities said sustained tracking and verification of leads helped the team trace the movement of the consignment and prevent its circulation in the market.
Officials noted that is increasingly being misused by substance abusers, raising serious public health and social concerns.
They added that surveillance and enforcement measures against the illegal trade, transportation and misuse of drugs have been intensified.
According to officials, strict monitoring of pharmaceutical distribution networks is underway and similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days.
The administration and enforcement agencies said they are maintaining close watch on the illegal movement and sale of habit-forming drugs, particularly to safeguard youth from substance abuse.
