SRINAGAR: Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Faz Lul Haseeb on Thursday visited the SMC Shopping Complex at Regal Chowk, where he reviewed civic infrastructure, interacted with traders and ordered immediate measures for upgradation of public facilities in the area.

During the visit, the Commissioner carried out an extensive inspection of civic amenities and infrastructure available within the commercial complex and listened to various concerns raised by members of the Traders Association. Several grievances projected by the traders were addressed on the spot, while directions were issued to the concerned officers for time-bound redressal of other issues.

One of the major concerns highlighted during the interaction was the need for expansion and upgradation of the existing lavatory block to cater to the increasing footfall of traders and visitors at the busy commercial hub.

Taking immediate cognisance of the issue, Faz Lul Haseeb directed the Joint Commissioner (Works) to initiate steps for extension of the lavatory block and ensure early execution of the project in the interest of public convenience.

Reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment towards strengthening urban infrastructure, the Commissioner also instructed the engineering and civic wings of the SMC to prepare a comprehensive upgradation plan for the Regal Chowk shopping complex. The proposed plan will focus on improving sanitation, enhancing civic amenities, upgrading public infrastructure and creating a better environment for traders, shoppers and visitors.

As part of the visit, the Commissioner also inspected the offices of the Executive Engineer, City Drainage Civil Division, and the Executive Engineer, Right River Works Division. He reviewed the functioning of the departments and stressed the need for efficient drainage management, timely execution of developmental works and stronger monitoring mechanisms to improve civic service delivery across the city.

He reiterated that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation remains committed to responsive governance, stakeholder engagement and sustained improvement of civic amenities through regular field inspections and prompt grievance redressal.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Joint Commissioner (Works), Superintending Engineer (Drainage), Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Sanitation Officer and other senior officers of the Corporation.
