Jammu: Traffic Police Rural Jammu registered an FIR against a bus driver in Rajouri for overloading and violating motor vehicle rules, officials said.
The action followed a routine check by the traffic unit near Government Degree College Rajouri, where a passenger bus (JK02DJ-8844) en route from Karhad to Rajouri was intercepted. The vehicle, driven by Tahir Hussain, son of Zakir Hussain of Karhad, was found carrying 13 excess passengers, posing a serious safety risk.
Officials said the vehicle had a history of repeated violations, having been challaned 36 times, with 25 challans still pending. The bus was also operating with an expired fitness certificate and had been challaned for the same offence on April 29, 2026.
Accordingly, FIR No. 225/2026 under Sections 281/125 BNS and 56/192/184/194 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at Police Station Rajouri.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic Rural Jammu) Farooq Qaiser said the case will be taken up for cancellation of the vehicle’s registration certificate and the driver’s licence, and warned of strict action against violators.
