Srinagar: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday visited Srinagar and held a detailed meeting with senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K unit at Church Lane.
He was joined by BJP UT President and MP Sat Sharma, Leader of Opposition and MLA Sunil Sharma, and party General Secretary Mohammad Anwar Khan.
The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, district presidents, district in-charges and other functionaries. Addressing the gathering, Chouhan appreciated the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit for strengthening its grassroots presence despite challenging conditions.
Highlighting upcoming initiatives, he said Srinagar will soon witness the launch of the next phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV, Batch-II), aimed at improving rural connectivity and boosting infrastructure across the region. He reiterated that the government led by Narendra Modi remains committed to accelerating development in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on rural prosperity and agriculture.
Chouhan also spoke about plans to identify and engage talented youth from the Kashmir Valley, encouraging them to contribute to research and innovation, particularly in the agriculture sector, to support sustainable growth and livelihoods.
Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma welcomed the Union Minister’s visit and said the BJP’s presence in the Valley has been steadily expanding, with growing participation from youth and grassroots workers. He added that the party’s focus on development, transparency and inclusive growth is gaining wider acceptance among people.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma also addressed the meeting, reiterating the party’s commitment to public welfare and development-oriented governance in the Union Territory.
