Shopian: Continuing its intensified campaign against the drug menace, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in multiple areas of Shopian district and registered three separate cases.
The campaign was carried out under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, following specific inputs received through the Beat Incharge. Police teams from Police Station Shopian, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, conducted raids in Zawoora, Gugloora Pinjoora and Mirpora Pinjoora.
During the operation in Zawoora, illegal poppy cultivation was detected on land belonging to Abdul Gaffar Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir. The crop was destroyed on the spot, and a case (FIR No. 65/2026) has been registered at Police Station Shopian. Investigation has been initiated.
In a similar action at Gugloora Pinjoora, police found illicit poppy cultivation on land owned by Nizar Ahmad Shah, son-in-law of Mohammad Paul. Accordingly, FIR No. 66/2026 has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Another case was registered following the detection of illegal poppy cultivation in Mirpora Pinjoora, on land belonging to Khurshid Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Malik. The crop was destroyed, and FIR No. 67/2026 has been lodged, with investigations in progress.
