Chenab region witnessing renewed development push after a decade: Javed Rana

Kishtwar: Senior leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest & Tribal Affairs, Javed Rana on Sunday said that the Chenab region is witnessing a long-awaited revival in development after nearly a decade.

Addressing a large gathering of party functionaries in Kishtwar, Rana said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the government is working on multiple fronts to accelerate development and ensure balanced and inclusive growth across far-flung areas.

The programme, organised by District President Kishtwar Tanvir Ahmad Kichloo, was attended by several senior leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo and Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, along with other party functionaries.

Rana, who is on a four-day tour of the Chenab region, highlighted a range of welfare measures undertaken by the government, including infrastructure upgrades and strengthening of key institutions in the health and education sectors. He also pointed to the administration’s response to recent weather-related calamities, outlining relief and rehabilitation efforts for affected communities.

He said the Chenab region is being treated at par with other areas, while also receiving additional focus due to its historical backwardness. Criticising the past eleven years of governance by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rana alleged that the region had been pushed behind, but added that the present dispensation is committed to transforming it into a hub of development and employment.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo expressed concern over the delay in restoration of statehood, while asserting that the current administration continues to work towards equitable development for the people of the region.

Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta urged party workers to prepare for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) and Panchayat elections, calling on them to take the government’s pro-people agenda to every doorstep and strengthen grassroots engagement.

The event was also attended by several other party leaders and local functionaries, who reiterated their commitment to organisational strengthening and public outreach in the region.
