Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has intensified its anti-drug campaign across multiple districts of Kashmir under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, combining enforcement actions with large-scale awareness and community outreach programmes.
In Baramulla’s Tangmarg sub-division, police organised a drug awareness rally under the supervision of the SDPO Tangmarg. Local youth participated enthusiastically, riding ATVs and displaying banners carrying messages such as “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life.”
The rally passed through various areas of Tangmarg and Gulmarg, drawing public attention and promoting a collective resolve to eliminate drug abuse.
In Anantnag district, police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over 10 marlas of land and registered five FIRs under the NDPS Act in separate operations.
Police Station Dooru carried out destruction in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and Agriculture Department officials. Separate cases were also registered by Police Stations Larnoo and Pahalgam, where illegal cultivation was detected and destroyed in coordination with Revenue and Agriculture departments.
In Awantipora, awareness programmes were organised at Zafran Public Higher Secondary School Samboora and Syed Memorial English Medium High School, Sharshalli (Khrew).
Students, teachers, parents, and community members participated in the sessions, where police sensitised them about the harmful effects of drug abuse and stressed the importance of early intervention and community vigilance. Participants pledged to work towards a drug-free society.
In Kupwara, police launched intensified action against drug peddling under the supervision of the SSP Kupwara in coordination with the district administration.
A total of nine NDPS cases have been registered, with special focus on identified drug hotspots. Police have initiated “hue and cry” notices against absconders and are conducting verification of non-local populations.
Daily awareness rallies have also been conducted since April 11, 2026, alongside inspections of medical shops to prevent misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.
In Ganderbal, police organised awareness programmes at multiple institutions including Riyaan Public School (Baba Wayil), Government High School Shallabugh, and Shaheen Public School (Manigam).
A major event was held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shuhama, where officers highlighted the legal implications of drug abuse under the NDPS Act and urged students to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society.
In Shopian, police conducted a series of awareness programmes, including one at Government Degree College Zainapora in collaboration with civil administration and a rally at Keller in association with Al-Falah School.
Separately, police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in Narwani Imamsahib area. The crop was found on land belonging to an individual identified as Ab Rehman Mir, and FIR No. 27/2026 was registered at Police Station Imamsahib.
In Sopore, police intensified activities under the 100-day campaign with awareness rallies, enforcement drives, and community engagement initiatives.
A public rally was held at Warpora, while enforcement measures included checking of medical stores and naka operations to curb drug trafficking.
To promote a healthy lifestyle, yoga sessions and a Kho-Kho match were organised at District Police Lines Sopore. Participants, including students, traders, civil society members, and religious scholars, pledged support for a drug-free society.
In Pulwama, police conducted search operations at multiple locations including Kasbyar (CB Nath) and carried out a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at the identified hotspot “Okhoo.”
Joint teams also searched residences of suspected drug peddlers, while illegal poppy cultivation at Singu Narbal was destroyed. Medical shops were inspected to ensure compliance with regulations on psychotropic substances.
Awareness programmes were held at Government High School Pahoo, Sheikh-ul-Alam School Hawal, Arabal village, and Hayat Computer Institute Pulwama. Police also participated in a blood donation drive as part of community outreach efforts.
In Ganderbal, police detected and destroyed illicit poppy cultivation at two locations.
At Watlar village under Police Station Lar, an FIR (No. 13/2026) was registered against an individual identified as Ghulam Rasool Sheikh. Another case (FIR No. 10/2026) was registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani after detection of illegal cultivation at Darakhpora.
Reiterating its firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace, the Jammu and Kashmir Police urged the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling, trafficking, or illegal cultivation. Authorities assured that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
Police emphasized that, alongside strict enforcement, sustained awareness and community participation remain key pillars of the strategy to build a safer and drug-free society across Jammu and Kashmir.
