Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that ensuring women’s safety, bringing industries back and making West Bengal “free from infiltrators” would be the BJP government’s first priorities if the party is voted to power in the state.
“First of all, we will ensure the safety of women, bring industries back, and along with that, we will also make Bengal free from infiltrators,” Shah told PTI Videos during a roadshow in Howrah, when asked what the BJP would do first if it formed the government in the state.
On the TMC’s claim that the high polling percentage in the first phase of polling reflected public anger against the SIR exercise, Shah said, “Everything will be clear on May 4, the day of the results.”
His remarks came after nearly 93 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Thursday’s first phase of polling across 152 assembly seats in the state.
Asked about his expectations from the remaining 142 seats going to polls in the second and final phase, the senior BJP leader said, “We will speak about it after the polling is over.”
The second leg of polling for the West Bengal assembly elections is scheduled to be held on April 29.
