DC Srinagar reviews flood management projects, stresses timely completion

SRINAGAR: Akshay Labroo on Saturday reviewed the progress of flood management projects and embankment strengthening works being undertaken to enhance flood resilience along the River Jhelum in Srinagar district.

The review meeting was held at the DC Office complex and attended by senior officers of the district administration, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, SDRF and other agencies.

Among those present were Masroor Ahmad Mir, Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, Aadil Fareed, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Ambreen Anjum and Suhail-ul-Islam.

At the meeting, officials briefed the Deputy Commissioner on flood mitigation measures being undertaken by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, as well as the preparedness of the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and the District Disaster Management Authority.

Akshay Labroo, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, stressed the need for proactive planning and timely completion of all ongoing works, particularly embankment strengthening projects.

He directed officials to ensure that all preventive measures are put in place well before the onset of the flood season to minimise risks.

The Deputy Commissioner also called for close coordination among all departments, regular monitoring and advance planning of manpower and resources.

He stressed the importance of a multi-agency approach to disaster preparedness and directed departments to strengthen capacity-building measures and maintain readiness for any emergency situation.

Akshay Labroo also reviewed the preparedness and resource augmentation of the NDRF, SDRF, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and the District Disaster Management Authority.

He directed the concerned departments to expedite vulnerability mapping, identify flood-prone locations and prepare a comprehensive inventory of resources required for flood mitigation and response.
