Srinagar: Police seized a consignment of illicit timber along with a load-carrier and arrested the accused involved in it, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
He said during routine checking near Wussan, a police team intercepted a load-carrier (JK16B-4440) and found it carrying eight logs of “illegally felled” Kail timber. The driver fled the spot after seeing the police party, abandoning the vehicle.
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed that the seized timber was being transported without any valid permit or legal documentation, following which the vehicle and timber were seized as per law, and a case under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Forest Act stands registered at Police Station Ganderbal.
Subsequently, a special police team arrested the accused Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Qasim Dar, resident of Nilahnajwan, Kangan.
