As global energy demands rise, SusTech Innovations Pvt Ltd  is stepping up with smarter ways to track and optimize electricity consumption. This Hyderabad-based start-up helps power-intensive industries monitor their energy use in real time and improve efficiency without relying on third-party meters.

Trained at the U.S. Embassy New Delhi’s Nexus Startup Hub , SusTech’s patented Internet of Things (IoT)-based system called EEMAC (Electrical Energy Measuring, Monitoring and Control). EEMAC tracks energy flow, detects inefficiencies and helps prevent overuse— resulting in reduced costs, less waste and a lighter load on the power grid.

SusTech’s work aligns with the United States and India’s commitment to accelerating innovation through the TRUST (Transforming Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology) initiative—announced in the U.S.-India Joint Leaders’ Statement —and is supported by the Nexus Startup Hub, which connects start-ups, innovators and investors with networks, training, mentors and funding.

Smarter energy for all

SusTech began with a clear goal of tackling rising energy demand through smarter consumption. “We noticed a major gap in energy efficiency at the consumption level due to outdated infrastructure, unmonitored usage and lack of consumer awareness,” says founder-director Vijaya Kumari Kakarla .

SusTech’s solutions aim to shift how people view energy use, moving from passive consumption to conscious, optimized management. Its flagship product EEMAC captures and relays real-time electrical data like voltage, current and power factor, which can be accessed by users through its mobile or web apps. This data, stored on a secure cloud platform, offers users insights and alerts for anomalies, overuse or inefficiencies.

Unlike standard smart meters, EEMAC also allows for load control, remote disconnection and automation, and works across multiple sectors, from households to heavy industry. “With predictive diagnostics and encrypted data handling, EEMAC provides a proactive, independent approach to energy optimization,” says Kakarla.

While many start-ups offer basic data dashboards, SusTech adds intelligence and automation. “We enable users to measure, monitor, control, set thresholds, auto correct power factor, detect theft and schedule loads,” she says.

The system’s modular design makes it easy to scale. “We make energy visible and manageable, empowering users to reduce costs, cut emissions, and increase safety,” Kakarla explains. “In multiple field tests, users saw measurable reductions in energy bills.”

Mentored for global impact

Kakarla credits Nexus with refining SusTech’s vision. “The Nexus Startup Hub was pivotal in shaping SusTech’s strategic direction,” she says. The program connected the team to global mentors and policy experts. “We refined our product based on real customer feedback, aligned with U.S.-India energy priorities, and learned to scale responsibly,” says Kakarla.

SusTech has its eyes on international markets, especially the United States, where they are exploring collaborations with energy incubators, universities and grid modernization hubs. “Our goal is to offer scalable, affordable energy intelligence that aligns with U.S. modernization efforts,” she says.

Future-ready solutions

SusTech continues to innovate. One of its latest offerings is the Transformer Health Monitoring and Controlling System (THMC), tested by the Central Power Research Institute, Bengaluru.

“THMC uses smart sensors to monitor transformer oil, temperature and load stress, which helps prevent failures and improve grid resilience,” says Kakarla. Their new analytics tool also forecasts peak loads and optimizes energy use through automation, thus reducing distribution losses, improving system longevity, and enabling a smart and secure energy infrastructure.
