“The Tale of My Town” marks the maiden attempt to demystify the historic journey of Anantnag ( Islamabad) town of the Kashmir Valley  revealing its evolution from ancient times as “Aench” to its present form. Reflecting exhaustive research and an unbiased approach, the book delves into the town’s significance, boundaries, formation, inhabitants, culture, and traditions. Compiled over eighteen years, it involved meeting 355 individuals and consulting 53 books to gather accurate information amidst a lack of formal records. From historical landmarks to local festivals, religious practices, education, healthcare, administration, and socio-political dynamics, the book meticulously captures the essence of the town’s rich tapestry.

The book offers a captivating exploration of the intricacies of the town and its inhabitants, providing readers with unique and insightful glimpses into the past. Through the author’s masterful depiction, the town’s rich history comes alive, painting a vivid picture that resonates deeply with readers. Forgotten aspects and individuals are brought back to the forefront of memory, enriching our understanding of the town’s heritage.

Credit goes to Mr. Mohammad Shafi Ayaz for his hard work in writing such a wonderful book, which can undoubtedly serve as the first reference book for understanding the history of this historic town.

With a bibliography and a list of individuals interviewed during the author’s research, The Tale of My Town is a comprehensive exploration of Anantnag (Islamabad)’s multifaceted narrative. The book also includes an annexed photographic gallery with beautiful old photos.
