Kashmiri craftsman G M Zaz conferred with Padma Shri

Srinagar: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday conferred Padma awards to recipients of this year’s honours at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The president had approved the conferment of 106 Padma awards, including three duo cases (in a duo case, the award is counted as one), on the eve of this year’s Republic Day.

Of these, over 50 people were awarded Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri on Wednesday.

Among this year’s recipients for the Padma Shri is Ghulam Mohammad Zaz, a Kashmiri artisan, in the field of Art, who received the award in the civil investiture ceremony held today.

Ghulam Mohammad Zaz, is a Kashmiri master craftsman who specializes in the manufacture of handmade musical instruments like Sitaar, Rabab, Tawoos, and Santoor. He is widely recognized across the country and overseas for his role in manufacturing quality musical instruments, especially Santoor.
