My Town My Pride 2.0: Comm Secy SWD interacts with locals at Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: As part of the My Town My Pride (MTMP) 2.0 programme initiative of the Government to provide governance at the doorsteps of the public in the urban areas, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department (SWD), Sheetal Nanda today visited Ganderbal and interacted with locals there.

During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary who is also visiting officer of the district, interacting with social activists, and citizens including traders’ federations and market associations who apprised her about various issues and development needs and sought intervention for their timely redressal.

During the interaction, the locals demanded the availability of building materials, a dearth of staff in the district hospital, a CT Scan facility at DH, early commissioning of 93 hydropower projects, women’s College, new bus routes, beautification of the town, street lights on Hospital road, Pandach-Beehama road widening besides augmentation of electricity and water infrastructure in Ganderbal town.

While interacting with them, Sheetal Nanda said that the objective of the programme is to inform the locals about the services available for the socio-economic development of the people. She highlighted that the problems faced by people in urban areas and coming out with solutions for the upgradation of urban infrastructure and amenities also form part of this programme.

The Commissioner Secretary maintained that the MTMP is focused to provide self-employment avenues to the unemployed youth and several departments are providing handholding to such persons who are interested to start their own employment ventures under various schemes and urged the unemployed youth to avail benefit from such schemes.

Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Shyambir while speaking on the occasion informed that during Jan Abhiyan several events were held that focused on sanitation, online services at doorsteps, and awareness about Self-employment schemes. He added that 50 percent of digital land passbooks are also distributed and 100 percent of door-to-door garbage collection is also ensured.

Labour Commissioner, Abdul Rashid War on the occasion said that the focus of MTMP is service delivery at door steps besides achieving feedback from the people regarding the status of delivery of services to ensure corruption-free governance.

Earlier, Commissioner Secretary took a round of the stalls installed by various departments on the lawns of Mini Secretariat Ganderbal and enquired about the online services and schemes provided especially those that offer livelihood opportunities to the locals.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Secretary also handed over financial assistance of Rs 99.21 lakh under Lower Education Assistance Scheme and Rs 2.5 lakh under the Higher Education Assistance Scheme of the Labour Department. She also distributed Golden cards, Sports Kits, Financial assistance under PMAY-U, Financial assistance and certificates under PM SVANIDHI, baby kits, and hearing aids among the beneficiaries.

Later, Sheetal Nanda chaired a joint meeting of Municipal Council Ganderbal and district officers here in the conference hall of the Mini Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir, Labour Commissioner, Ab Rashid War, SSP Ganderbal, Nikhil Borkar, ADDC, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, ADC, ACR, Vice-Chairman, Municipal Council Ganderbal, district officer besides councilors.

During the meeting, the Commissioner Secretary was briefed by the DC through power point presentation about the status of works undertaken under various schemes in the town, SWM, the physical status of PMAY (U), SWM (U), PM-SVANIDHI, the status of assets besides online services provided by Municipal Council Ganderbal.

The DC also briefed her about her future city development plan for Ganderbal which include various components like the City façade improvement plan, beautification plan, city library, city smart vending plan, etc.

While interacting with the district officers and councilors, Sheetal Nanda asked them to discuss the master plan proposed with all stakeholders before finalizing besides separate plan for drainage and traffic management shall be proposed taking all stakeholders on board so that better planning is ensured. She also urged them to generate mass awareness among the people regarding various beneficiary-oriented schemes, online services, and self-employment schemes, besides instant delivery of services to the masses, and speedy execution of people-centric projects shall be ensured so that common people are benefited.
