J&K records 165 fresh COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 165 fresh Covid cases, taking the number of infected persons to 3,33,490 while three deaths in the last 24 hours took the toll to 4,448, officials said.

Of the new cases, 147 were from Kashmir and 18 from the Jammu division of the union territory, they said.

Srinagar district recorded the highest number of cases at 68, followed by 30 in Baramulla district.

Two of the three Covid deaths were reported from Kashmir and one from Jammu division, officials said.

They said 131 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 111 from Kashmir and 20 from Jammu division in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 49 confirmed cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus) were reported in the union territory.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 79,419 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,54,20,883.

According to the bulletin, out of 3,33,490 positive cases recorded cumulatively so far across J&K, currently there are 1,230  active positive cases including 1,075 in Kashmir and 155 in Jammu division, while as 3,27,812 persons have recovered and 4,448 have died – 2,270 in Kashmir and 2,178 in Jammu division.

India records 11,466 COVID-19 cases, 460 deaths

New Delhi: India recorded a single-day rise of 11,466 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the country’s tally of infections to 3,43,88,579, while the count of active cases has declined to 1,39,683, the lowest in 264 days, Union Health Ministry data showed.

The death toll due to the disease has climbed to 4,61,849, with 460 more fatalities being recorded, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 33 straight days. Less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 136 consecutive days now.

The tally of active cases has declined to 1,39,683 which comprises 0.41 percent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.25 percent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

A decrease of 955 cases was recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, the data showed.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.90 percent. This has been less than two percent for 37 days.

The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.20 percent. This figure has been below two percent for 47 days, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 3,37,87,047, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.34 percent.

The cumulative number of doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 109.63 crore. (PTI)
