Ex-servicemen rally held at Shalateng Military garrison

Srinagar: To commemorate 50 years of Indian Victory over Pakistan in the 1971 War, which gave birth to a new nation called “Bangladesh”, a wide range of events were conducted over a period of one week which saw enthusiastic participation of youth, students and ESMs, said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.

“A visit to Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre was organised on 01 Sep 2021. Locals from area surrounding Shalateng garrison were given an opportunity to visit the Regimental Centre. The visit introduced them to the rich history of the JAK LI Regiment and the momentous part it played alongside Kashmiri citizens in the Battle of Shalateng. The joint efforts had thwarted the designs of Pakistan Army and Kabailis in 1947-48,” the PRO (Defence) said.

“The school students of Army Goodwill School, Hanzik were taken for an excursion to Gulmarg on 02 Sep 2021. Around 120 students & teachers visited the High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg. Students were impressed by the skills, resources and training aids on display and were highly motivated to join the Indian Army. An ex-servicemen rally was organised on 06 Sep 2021 at Shalateng Military garrison and was attended by around 160 ESMs and Veer Naris. The rally had representatives of Zila Sainik Board, Pension disbursement office, JAK LI Record Office to address issues being faced by ESMs. The ESMs were briefed on various existing government schemes for aiding & mitigating issues of the veterans,” said Col Emron Musavi.

“GOC, Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo) attended the ESM Rally. He laid a wreath at Shalateng War Memorial to honour the sacrifices of our fallen heroes. Students of Army Goodwill School, Hanzik, presented a cultural programme to mark the event. While felicitating ESMs & Veer Naris, the GOC Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo), thanked them for their service to the nation and assured them of all possible assistance,” he added.
