Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) on Wednesday staged a silent protest against the government for not releasing the salaries of around 149 teachers.

Scores of teachers assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and held a sit-in to press for their demands.

Muhammad Rafiq Rather, Chairman Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 149 teachers are not getting their salaries due to ‘adverse’ report.

“65 among them are not getting salaries for the alleged militancy-related issue. Although they have got clearances from CID and other security agencies, but still their salaries are being withheld. There is no concrete order in this regard as well,” he said.

He added that youth from Kulgam has also committed suicide after his father’s salary was withheld for the last 24 months.

“The government must release the salaries of all the employees so that such incidents are prevented,” he added. (KNO)
