Shopian encounter: 2 militants, solider killed, one Army man injured
Operation may last till morning, have installed lights, tightened cordon, say officials
Shopian: Two unidentified militants and a solider has been killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in Wangam village of Harmain belt in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
A senior police officer told KNO) that two unidentified militants have been killed, stating that their identity is being ascertained.
He added that two soldiers were also injured during exchange of fire, among them one identified as Pinku Kumar has succumbed to his injuries and another is undergoing treatment. He said the operation is on in the area.
Earlier, an official had said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
A police officer said that the operation may last till morning.
“We have installed lights and tightened the cordon to ensure the remaining militants don’t flee,” he said, adding that hiding militants are repeatedly being asked to surrender.
