Five civilians injured in grenade attack in Pattan

Srinagar:  Five civilians were injured after militants lobbed a grenade on a vehicle carrying security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday, police said.

The attack took place at Singhpora in Pattan area of the district and left four civilians injured who were identified by the Health officials as Ghulam Mohammad Parray S/O  Mohammad Ramzan Parray of Singpora, Gulzar Ahmad Khan S/O  Ghulam Mohidin,  Manzoor Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Mohd Bhat of Singpora, Zubair Ahmad Dar S/O Ashiq Dar of Singapora and Tabasum daughter of Abdul  Rehman Bhat of Doodi Pora Handwara.

The militants lobbed the grenade towards a vehicle of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) this morning but it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, resulting in injuries to four civilians.

Giving details, police officials said that after receiving information about the incident at Singhpora area of Pattan, police rushed to the spot and the preliminary investigation revealed that a grenade was hurled upon vehicle of 2nd Bn SSB at Singhpora Pattan area of Baramulla. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on road. In this incident, five civilians received splinter injuries and were evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries.

Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on, the press release said.
