PDP to take alleged harassment of BDC candidates with Admin
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday said it will take up with administration that the police is allegedly ‘threatening’ candidates contesting DDC elections.
PDP general secretary, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said the party president Mehbooba Mufti would take up the issue with the administration tomorrow so that the role of police who he alleged ‘threatens’ candidates in the name of security, is probed.
“We have received complaints from many areas that police is threatening candidates who submit their nomination forms for upcoming DDC elections. They are being threatened and forced to stay at protected places,” Hanjura told reporters at PDP office here.
Hanjura also accused the rightwing BJP for using unconstitutional and undemocratic means to ensure its candidates win elections uncontested.
He also alleged that BJP has made fun of elections, stating in a democratic process every candidate has the right to visit her/his constituency for poll campaigning.
“Security is just an excuse; they actually want their candidates to win these elections uncontested, which is not good for democracy. This is why candidates of other parties are also threatened and forced to stay at protected places,” he added.
PDP leader further said the issue of threatening candidates in the name of security has been brought into the notice of Mehbooba Mufti, and that she would take the same up with the administration today or tomorrow to ascertain the motives behind these unconstitutional moves.
