2 militant accomplices involved in cop killing arrested: Police
‘ISI agent’ arrested
Srinagar, Dec 07: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two accomplices of the militants who they said were involved in the killing of Police Sub-Inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir October 28, 2018.
The arrested duo has been identified as Ansar-ul-Haq, son of Bashir Ahmad Raina, resident of Tikken Pulwama, and Syed Saika Amin, resident of Pulwama, a police spokesman said. He said the vehicle used for the commission of crime has also been seized by the police.
Investigation into the case revealed that they were in touch with the Hizbul Mujahideen militants and had hatched a conspiracy for killing the police officer, spokesman said.
He said militants — Liyaqat Ahamd Wani, son of Muneer Ahmad Wani, resident of Below, and Wajid-ul-Islam Wani, son of Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, resident of Babhar Pulwama — who were involved in the killing of police officer, were killed recently in an encounter at Pulwama.
Meanwhile, Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspected ISI agent who was allegedly planning militant attacks in Kishtwar district, an officer said.
Sehran Sheikh alias Abu Zubair, a resident of Malikpeth area in Kishtwar, was arrested during a raid in the district on charges of working as an agent for the Pakistan spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a police officer said.
“Sheikh was gathering information about the establishments of J&K Police, armed forces and army deployment in Kishtwar. He had come in contact with a Pakistan-based militant group, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM),” the officer said.
The aim of gathering the information about the security establishments was to plan militant attacks, the officer said, adding that there were inputs that the banned organisation was using agents to carry out attacks in the district.
According to the officer, the accused had confessed to his involvement. The police have found that many videos, including on the paramilitary forces’ establishments, have been exchanged on Pakistan numbers.
