Poor network, internet irks residents of Safanagri Shopian

Shopian, September 14: The residents of Safanagri village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district have complained of poor network coverage and slow internet speed in their area.

Residents here complained that people in other places of the valley are enjoying 4th generation (4g) services, while as they are still using 2nd generation (2G) network services. “The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-owned telecommunications company, is also providing poor services in our area.”

They said that from last 4-5 years the subscribers of Airtel, BSNL are suffering due to frequent call drops and poor network connectivity and the telecom authorities have failed to resolve the issue.

One of the residents of village, Abul Rehman said, “Although, there are some mobile towers located in nearby villages but the village still lies in no network area.”

“A network tower of Jio cellular company was installed some 6 months ago in our village, but it has not been made functional yet,” he added.

Network Engineer Jio, Shopian while acknowledging that there are network issues in the area said, “The villagers should write an application to the district administration or our department’s network wing to get this issue resolved.”
