Chairman LC for mass awareness about NABARD schemes

KARGIL JUNE 5:- Chairman Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali today called for synergized efforts among the executing agencies and banks for spreading maximum awareness among beneficiaries about NABARD schemes in the district by holding awareness programmes at regular intervals.

The Chairman stated this while chairing a meeting convened to review the status of NABARD funded projects in the district.

Minister for Cooperatives Chering Dorjay, Chief Executive Councilor Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Executive Councilor for Education Advocate Muhammad Amir, Executive Councilor for Health Muhammad Hussain, Executive Councilor for Zanskar Affairs Tenzin Sonam, MLA Kargil Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Vikas Kundal, Chief General Manager NABARD Vijay Kumar, SE PWD Kargil Sarwan Singh and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.

While stressing on the need for effective formulation and execution of projects under NABARD, the Chairman stressed upon the need to link the Hill Council Plan with NABARD’s credit plan adding that it will further help in identifying the thrust areas and generate better inputs for project formulation.

SE PWD Kargil informed the meeting that the schemes presently approved under NABARD (RIDF-XXII) in the district are of rural road connectivity while as the schemes under irrigation sector almost stands completed. Moreover, as of now, 55 schemes of road connectivity including 6 irrigation schemes have also been completed.

It was further given out that work on 7 schemes of road connectivity and 3 irrigation canals is going on in full swing while as 6 new schemes of road connectivity have been approved under RIDF -XXIII during the current financial year.

Minister for Cooperatives Chering Dorjay while underlining the need to focus on the neglected sectors highlighted the need to explore possibilities for introduction of loans in cooperatives, agriculture, horticulture and related sectors through NABARD so that farmers at large are benefitted.

Chief Executive Councilor Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan brought to light the need for deputation of Nodal Officer in the district for conduct of training and awareness camps so that the line departments as well as beneficiaries are kept well abreast of various schemes and loan facilities.

Meanwhile, the officers of NABARD through a power point presentation briefed the meeting about NABARD development programmes including watershed, farm sector and tribal development, activities to deal with climate change, formation of farmers clubs, skill and entrepreneurship development initiatives, RIDF loans, Warehouse Infrastructure fund (WIF), farm sector promotion fund and promotion of micro credit etc.

Issues related to the enhancement of ceiling in the annual allocation of funds to the district from the present Rs 12 crores to Rs 20 crores, opening up of NABARD bank in the district and other related issues also came up for discussion.
