8 killed in road accident in UP

Sambhal, May 19:  At least eight people were killed and five injured after a tractor-trolley fell into a gorge here today, police said.

The accident took place at a T-point on the Anupshahr road in the Rajpura area, when a tractor-trolley ferrying some people from Moradabad to Aligarh fell into the gorge, Circle Officer (CO) Gunnaur Shakeel Ahmed said.

Eight people were killed and five injured, he said.

The injured were admitted to a community health centre in Rajpura for treatment, while the bodies were sent for post-mortem, the CO said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths and directed officials to ensure that the injured get adequate medical treatment.

“UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of those killed, and Rs 50,000 each for the injured persons,” an official statement issued here said.

The people were going to Aligarh to sell carpets, the officer said.
