‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ launched in districts

Kulgam /Anantnag, APRIL 14: District administration Kulgam launched outreach campaign ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ here today to mark the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.

The campaign which will continue till May 5 is aimed to promote social harmony, reach out to poor rural households, obtain feedback on ongoing development programmes, focus on doubling farmers’ income, enhance livelihood opportunities and re-emphasize national priorities including cleanliness and strengthening of Panchayati Raj institutions.

The day is also celebrated as ‘Social Justice’ day dedicated to the empowerment of differently-abled persons.

On the occasion, the Social Welfare Department Kulgam distributed 45 prosthetic aids including hearing aids, wheelchairs and clutches among the beneficiaries.

The function was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Development, District Social Welfare Officer and other officials of Rural Development Department.

Similar functions were also held at Sub-Division DH Pora and block level headquarters.

The District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik also launched RGSA from Primary Health Centre Mattan Anantnag today.

The DDC was accompanied by ADC Anantnag, Tehsildar Mattan, BDO Mattan and BMO Medical Block Mattan.

On the occasion, the DDC said that presently State and Centrally sponsored schemes and programmes are being run in the district so that the general public is benefitted from them.

He said that RGSA will speed up the overall developmental growth in the rural areas of the district and the field functionaries like ASHAs, ANMs, Aanganwadis and other concerned can play a vital role in bringing the benefits of such schemes to the doorsteps of the rural folk.

The DDC stressed for proper nutrition and healthcare of the newborns so that a healthy society is built.

The campaign will continue until May 5, he added.

Later, the DDC also distributed visual aids (eyeglasses) among 20 children.

He also visited Sub Centre Akura to take stock of the awareness being provided to the public regarding the RGSA.

Similar functions were held in Dak Bungalow Anantnag and PHC Larnu also.
