CUK holds workshop on ‘Use of Hindi as Official Language: Challenges & Solutions’

Ganderbal: The Rajbhasha Cell of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Wednesday organised a one-day workshop on “Use of Hindi as Official Language: Challenges & Solutions” for the administrative staff of the varsity at Science Campus here.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. Fayaz A Nikka, former Chairman, Rajasthan Sahitya Academy, Udaipur, Prof. Hetu Bhardwaj, former Head Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir, Prof. Zohra Afzal, Director Science Campus, Prof. Afzal Zargar and other functionaries of the university were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir congratulated the Rajbhasha Cell for organising the workshop. He highlighted the importance of learning different languages, including Hindi, for effectively communicating with people. “To sensitize the employees of the varsity about Hindi, the university’s Rajbhasha Cell is frequently conducting classes and has been successful in holding several workshops,” he said adding the administrative staff has evinced interest in learning the Rajbhasha. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that several employees of the university have already passed the Prabodh, Praveen and Pragya programmes with flying colours.

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz A Nikka said that languages does not belong to any community, sect, region or religion. “Learning different languages can prove highly beneficial for the people,” he said and asked the participants to gain maximum knowledge about the Hindi from the experts during the programme. He said the administrative staff is now using Hindi in official work and correspondence.

Director Science Campus, Prof. Afzal Zargar, also hailed the Rajbhasha Cell for organising the workshop. He underscored the need for learning Rajbhasha, other languages and their literature, adding the officials of the university, during the years, had acquired huge knowledge about reading and writing Hindi.

Former Chairman, Rajasthan Sahitya Academy, Udaipur, Prof. Hetu Bhardwaj and former Head Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir, Prof. Zohra Afzal later conducted technical sessions wherein they threw detailed light on the history of Hindi and proper usage of its vocabulary. They also held a question answer session with the participants.

Hindi Adhkari, Sakina Akhter, gave a detailed resume of the events organised by the Rajbhasha Cell to promote Hindi. She also divulged the programme details and said the objective of organising the workshop was to keep the administrative staff abreast about the terminology used in the administrative work.
