CUK, JKYF hold joint awareness programme on social service

Srinagar: The speakers at  Central University of Kashmir and JKYF’s joint awareness programme on social service called for fulfilling responsibility towards orphans, widows & destitute while simultaneously sensitizing younger generation about their role in mitigating plight & difficulties of underprivileged and weaker sections of society.

The joint awareness programme titled “Social Service- Our Role and Responsibility,” was organized by Central University of Kashmir’s Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) and J&K Yateem Foundation (JKYF) at Town Hall in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district headquarters.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that people belonging to affluent class should come forward and help the institutions and organizations working for the welfare of the orphans and destitute. He said the number of orphans in Kashmir has increased manifold due to the prevailing situation and there was a dire need to address their concerns. He assured all possible support to the JKYF in their endeavors.

JKYF Chairman, Mohammad Ahsan Rather gave an overview of the Foundation’s functioning and said the organization is not only working for the orphans, but is also running programmes including widow welfare programme, girls upliftment in domestic environment, marriage of orphan and poor girls and is also providing educational scholarships to the students. He asked the youngsters to come forward and volunteer themselves for this noble cause.

Deputy DSW CUK, Faizan Ashraf in his address said the main aim and objective of holding the awareness programme was to sensitize the students and faculty members about their role and responsibility in addressing the issues related to orphans. He said the DSW would extend full support to JKYF in organizing more such programmes.

Former Chairman JKYF, Muhammad Rafiq Lone also spoke on the occasion and said that since its inception, the Foundation has been putting in strenuous efforts to take forward the welfare and rehabilitation activities. He said the sensitization about the real plight and sufferings of the weaker sections of the society needs to be prioritized.
