Srinagar: Nizamuddin Bhat former Legislator has appealed for release of political prisoners on the eve of Eid.

Making a plea that most of them have been languishing for years, Bhat in a statement said release will come as an act befitting a welfare state.

Bhat said there is a precedence that on festivals families in distress and deprivations receive relief from responsive governments and administration as a reflection of concern.

He said law also provides for liberal and compassionate approach with spirit of accommodation and support.

Bhat said people friendly laws and policies need to be continued to minimise internal hostilities and avoid clash of ideas.

He hoped that along with political prisoners, under trials who have made representation to celebrate festivals with their families will be released on parole.

He offered his greetings to all prisoners and prayed for a healthy society free of conflict and crime.
