JKICPS organizes workshop on Autism

JAMMU, APRIL 05: To mark World Autism Awareness Week, a one-day workshop was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Integrated Child Protection Services and Department of Home Sciences (Human Development), University of Jammu here today.

G.A Sofi, State Mission Director JKICPS inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs Jammu University, Dr. Sarika Manhas, Associate Professor Department of Home Science Jammu University and Ajay Salan, DCPO Jammu.

The objective of the workshop was to make JKICPS functionaries as well as other stakeholders aware of Autism Spectrum Disorder, its characteristics and interventions that can be helpful to these children and their parents.

The JKICPS personnel were trained to identify children who are suspected to suffer from Autism.

G.A Sofi, in his address, highlighted the role of active awareness among general masses about the steadily increasing Autism Disorder among rural and urban community throughout the world.

Autism is a complex neurobehavioral condition that includes impairments in social interaction and developmental language and communication skills combined with rigid, repetitive behaviours.

Other resource persons on the occasion were Dr. Bharti Tandon, MIER Jammu, Neha Kalra, in-charge District Resource Centre, Umesh Sharma, Chairman Disabled Care Foundation and Dr. Manu Arora, Psychiatrist.

Scholars and students from PG Department of Home Science, Jammu University also attended the workshop.
