Baramulla, March 12: In order to create awareness about child rights and juvenile justice system among teaching fraternity, District Child Welfare Committee (DCWC) Baramulla, District Child Protection Unit and Juvenile Justice Board under Integrated Child Protection Service CPS Baramulla organized an awareness program to sensitize the people about the Juvenile Justice Act 2013 and protection of child rights at Girls Higher Secondary School Baramulla.
Speakers on this occasion teachers of different schools to ensure safeguard the rights of children and called for establishing child protection committees in private and government run schools and other educational intuitions
“You have to take onus of protecting children. For that there is need to take appropriate measures,” said Chairperson DCWC Shafeeq ur Rehman while discussing the framework, necessity for establishing, promoting and strengthening child protection mechanism that recognises, promotes and protects child rights at the grassroots level.
He asked the concerned functionaries to coordinate with the child-line and circulate its helpline number i.e. 1098 among parents and children.
Member of the Committee Waseem Hassan Parray said that children should be protected instead of being made the victims of violence, trafficking, and abuse. He further added that Children must get happiness and good childhood, good shelter, protection, food, education, sports, guidance, etc for a prosperous and dignified life.
Stressing on raising awareness and consciousness on child rights, Child Protection Officer Zubiar Mohi-ud-din said the role of the teachers as well as parents is vital for the wellbeing of children. He asked the educational institutes to take accountability for protecting the rights of children.
Emphasising on imparting moral education to the students, Nazir Ahmed Member CWC urged for promoting behavior changes among the students.
He highlighted various aspects of JJ Act besides raising awareness about various social security services, and schemes under ICPS. He informed the participants about the role and responsibilities towards the child protection as a civilized society. “
CPO Shahnawaz Ahmed and Councilor Hilal Ahmad also underscored the significance of the child rights. “The child rights are the fundamental rights. Every child has a privilege to live in a safe and secure environment as the future of any nation depends on the healthy blooming its children,” he said.
