Samoon lays foundation of GDCs at Hajin, Ajas

BANDIPORA, MARCH 03: Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon Sunday laid the foundation stones of two Government Degree Colleges at Hajin and Ajas, in presence of District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza.

Various senior officers and a large number of people from all walks of life from Bandipora were present on the occasion.

Samoon congratulated the people of Hajin and Ajas for getting their long pending demand fulfilled and hoped that the college will cater to the needs of higher education of inhabitants of the villages.

He said these colleges will make higher education more accessible and affordable to people of the concerned areas.

At Hajin, he said Bandipora has been known for producing famous educationists, intellectuals, poets and scholars and the college will help in continuing the legacy by providing a platform to the budding scholars. He suggested naming Hajin college as Professor Mohiuddin Hajni College to remember the son of the soil and his contribution.

The initial infrastructure for both the Colleges will cost Rs 17.36 crore each, which will include a three storey RCC frame structure.

Samoon said that Governor’s administration is committed to take higher education to the far-flung areas of the State and with that commitment the Government recently announced establishment of one more college in remote Tulail village in Gurez.

At Ajas, after laying foundation stone of the college, Samoon interacted with the people and assured them that the college shall be made functional in minimum possible time. He said the college will benefit thousands of students of Ajas and adjoining areas as they were forced to travel long distances or even stay put in Srinagar.

He further said that PWD (R&B) Department has been entrusted with the job of construction of building infrastructure of the Colleges with all modern amenities within a stipulated time.

On the occasion DDC Bandipora gave a brief of facilities and infrastructure available in the district besides other on going developmental activities. He assured every possible assistance from the district administration in getting the infrastructure ready for making the colleges fully functional. He said he will be regularly monitoring the construction work and stressed on quality works.

On the occasion various deputations called on Principal Secretary and the Deputy Commissioner and apprised them about various problems being faced by them. Samoon gave on spot directions for early redressal of their grievances and also asked the Deputy Commissioner to hold regular Public interaction programs so that governance reaches to the doorstep of the people by resolving their issues at their doorsteps.

Earlier the people of the area warmly welcomed the Principal Secretary and DDC Bandipora by expressing their gratitude to Governor’s administration for opening two more Degree Colleges in the district.
