Anantnag: Police in Anantnag today conducted market checking in Ashmuqam area.
Police party along with SDM Pahalgam, Tehsildar Pahalgam and a REP/Secretary of AMC today carried out inspection of market in Ashmuqam area, a police spokesman said.
The checking was aimed at ensuring the quality and hygiene, besides curbing black marketing and profiteering of essential commodities and to keep vigil on erring shopkeepers.
During the checking, the joint team destroyed stale and expired food items and various shopkeepers were fined for violating the legal regulations, said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, SDPO Pahalgam Showkat Wani said that such drives will be conducted on routine basis so that quality and hygiene of commodities is ensured. He urged shopkeepers not to violate the rules besides display the rate lists at their respective shops.
Police has requested general public for cooperation to ensure that fair practices are put in place by the shopkeepers and other dealers.
