65th Cooperative Week Celebrated in Kupwara

KUPWARA, NOVEMBER 16: The Department of Co-operatives Kupwara today celebrated 65th National Co-operative week in Kupwara. On the occasion, ADDC Kupwara, M. Y. Mir was the chief guest.

A large number of co-operative society members and people affiliated with its business units across the district participated in the day-long celebrations.

Deputy Registrar Co-operatives Kupwara, Farooq Ahmad Khan while highlighting the role and achievements said that department has presently 44 functional co-operative societies registered under Cooperative Societies Act, 1989 across the district. It includes 5 CMS, 4 S& S, 3 TSS, 22 PACS, 6 Poultry CS, 3 Diary CS and other societies.

He said during the financial year of 2017-2018, the department has sold about 41,137 quintals of different kind of fertilizers, thus accumulating revenue of 488.99 lakhs. In addition, the department also provided 7,32,290 litres of kerosene – oil worth 175.10 lakhs to the people during the corresponding period. Also, dairy business turnover for 2017-18 was 5.32 lakhs and for poultry business, this was more than 7 crores.

Regarding current year achievements, the department up to ending October 2018 has supplied about 16,740 quintals of fertilizer to societies for onward sale fetching around 183.40 lakhs. The department also supplied 3,46,788 litres of kerosene oil worth 99.23 lakhs. The dairy business turnover for 2018-19 was 3.05 lakhs, poultry business turnover was 26 lakhs. The total business turnover for the current financial year is 3.38 crore.

The Deputy Registrar further said that the co-operative movement is meant to help the poor and downtrodden sections of the society especially the rural population. He said cooperative is providing many services to the rural as well as urban population.

ADDC Kupwara, M Y Mir, DGM Central Cooperative Bank Baramulla, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Srinagar HQ, Assistant Registrars of block Rajwara, Trehgam, Kupwara, managers of Cooperative Marketing Societies and members of cooperative societies attended the day-long celebrations of 65th National Cooperative Week.
