Srinagar, 30 October 2018: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday dismissed the assertions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as highly uncouth and a shared effort to use Kashmir to lever poll benefits in the upcoming elections.
Speaking in a meeting here at party head quarters Nawa-e-Subh, party general secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar said that Yogi’s statement is borne out of his ignorance on Jammu & Kashmir and its history.
“The people of Kashmir didn’t let the communal frenzy overwhelm them even during the tumultuous times of 1947. Mahatma Gandhi saw a ray of hope in our state when the whole Indian subcontinent was overrun by religious passions and communal frenzy,” he said.
“By giving such bizarre statements, UP CM is doing a great disservice to the recorded communal amity in J&K. From 1947 after the partition till 1989, no community left Kashmir owing to threats. It seems that the BJP leaders need to get history lessons from authentic sources and literature on J&K,” he said.
Sagar said the displacement of Kashmiri pandits was certainly a black chapter in our history and that the displacement was part of a bigger game plan and conspiracy to divide the state on communal lines. “We in National Conference always tried our level best to make the return of Kashmiri pandits back to their homes possible. It was during Omar Abdullah led government that over 3000 jobs were given to displaced Kashmiri pundits. Kashmiri at large and our party rank and file in particular have always tried our level best to get the displaced pandits back,” he said.
Party General Secretary said that such brazenly false allegations are attempts to conceal the development deficit in the country. “We are yet to see implementation of all catchwords and promises made by BJP during 2014 elections. I would impress upon the BJP leadership not to make Kashmir a scapegoat to grind their own axe for increasing their electoral prospects in the upcoming elections country. Besides the law and order situation in his state is no better. Yogi ji should concentrate on his own state and stop giving lectures on other states,” Sagar said.
Sagar said that the malicious attempts to communalise the society in the run up for elections cannot work anymore. He said that issues like ram Mandir, Uniform civil code, Triple Talaq were used by BJP to score political points across the country.
“Jammu and Kashmir is a melting pot of various religious and ethnic groups and we will never give up our cherished values of brotherhood and amity,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, senior NC leader Mohammad Shafi Uri, North Zone President Mohammad Akbar Lone, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq, Provincial spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar.
Meanwhile General Secretary and MLA Khanyar Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar took a review of the ongoing work for a multi-facility community hall being constructed at Koolipora, Khanyar. The project, which is coming up at a cost of Rs 16 crore, apart from having a community hall will have other facilities including a gymnasium and a small medical center to address the health issues of locals.
Speaking on the occasion, Sagar said that with the changing times the upcoming community halls must be diverse. “The need of the hour is to provide all basic facilities to the people under one roof. This project, after its completion shall be the first of its kind and the biggest of all until now in terms of the facilities and capacity,” he said
Sagar said that five other mega construction projects in his constituency have already been taken up by the executing agencies. “I implored upon the honorable governor to expedite all the projects at an earliest before the onset of harsh winters,” he said.
Sagar said the other projects that are being executed are the extension of Dastagir sahib shrine, the establishment of sheer Kashmir College at Bagh e Dilawar Khan.
