HANDWARA, OCT 20: Established in 2011 under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme, government Primary School at Hangha, Mawar in Handwara has only eleven students on its roll with two teachers posted at the primary school.

According to the locals, the school is not functioning properly because the number of students attending the school is very less. “Most of the times, the teachers can be seen at the school without any student being present there. Why is government paying these teachers for having nothing to do at the school?,” they added.

“The primary school has three classes with only eleven children attending it and the government has all the good reasons to club this school,” said Mohammad Sultan, Numberdar of Ganaie Mohalla.

When contacted Chief Education officer (CEO) Kupwara, Mohd Shafi War, he said: “I will talk to concerned Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) for preparing a detailed report about the issue. When asked about the possibilities of clubbing the school, the ZEO said: “It will be decided only after assessing the report of the ZEO.”

Meanwhile, Kashmir Images contacted Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Mawar Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and sought his comments about the issue. “Locals of Mawar have never visited my office regarding the issue. He, however, acknowledged that school has very less number of students on its roll.

“The primary school belongs to public, if they want shifting or clubbing of the said school they should visit my office so that I could write to Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kupwara for necessary action,” he added.
