Srinagar: A banner seeking information about four terrorists wanted by security forces surfaced at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Sunday, while security forces arrested two suspected overground workers (OGWs) and recovered a pistol and two hand grenades during a joint operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A flex banner was found hanging on a wall of Pratap Park in Lal Chowk early Sunday morning, seeking information about the whereabouts of four wanted terrorists, including Mohammad Lateef Bhat, who is allegedly involved in the killing of a police personnel in Anantnag in July this year.
The other three named in the banner are Bilal Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Umar Mir and Abid Qayoom Lone, all residents of Baramulla district.
According to officials, Bhat, a resident of Kulgam district, is active in the Kashmir Valley, while the other three are believed to be operating from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
The banner appealed to the public to share credible information about the movement or presence of the four men, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential. It also offered a reward for reliable information.
In a separate operation in Kulgam, security forces arrested two suspected OGWs after they allegedly attempted to flee during a joint naka checking in Kulgam town.
The arrested persons were identified as Muneeb Yaseen Rather and Tahir Bilal, both residents of Bugam.
According to police, a joint team comprising personnel from Kulgam Police, 9 Rashtriya Rifles and the 18th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) intercepted the duo during checking around 11.30 am on Sunday.
During searches, a pistol, magazine and two live rounds were recovered from Rather, while two live hand grenades were recovered from Bilal, police said.
A case under FIR No. 213/2026 has been registered at Police Station Kulgam under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway.
Officials said the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the recovery and the alleged involvement of the accused.
