SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Monday called for a collective fight against drug abuse, stressing that protecting children and young people from addiction was a shared responsibility of society.
Prabhat made the remarks while flagging off a joint contingent of 15 bikers from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Police at the J&K Police Public School in Bemina. The contingent is travelling to Ekta Nagar in Gujarat to participate in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade on October 31.
Speaking to reporters, the DGP said the anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir was gaining momentum under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Referring to recent action against drug trafficking in Srinagar, he said several arrests had been made during the crackdown.

The contingent comprises 10 personnel from J&K Police and five from Ladakh Police. It will join 45 contingents representing states, Union Territories and Central Armed Police Forces in the national motorcycle rally.
An awareness programme on the theme “Fight Against Drugs” was also organised at the school ahead of the flag-off, with students participating in the event.
Senior police officers present included Special Director General of Police (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Additional Director General of Police (Armed) Nitish Kumar and Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Sujit Kumar.
