Another 80 scholarships have been allotted for medical and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses against a target of 100.
The scheme provides students from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh an opportunity to pursue undergraduate studies at institutions outside the two Union Territories through the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) counselling process. It provides financial assistance towards academic fees and maintenance expenses.
PMSSS recorded 3,627 beneficiaries in 2023-24, 3,674 in 2024-25 and 3,585 in 2025-26.
The Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir facilitates the scheme’s implementation through registration and counselling support, facilitation centres and facilitation-cum-document verification centres.
The department also coordinates verification and review through a Union Territory-level committee headed by the Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department, with the Director Colleges, J&K, as member secretary.
With 285 scholarships remaining against the annual target, the scheme has reached nearly 94 per cent of its planned allotment for the current academic session.
