Srinagar: Light to moderate rain lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours, with Jammu-Chatha recording the highest rainfall of 53.5 mm, while the Meteorological Department forecast intermittent showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several areas in the coming days.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, Jammu-Chatha received 53.5 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning, followed by Katra with 19 mm and Bhaderwah with 4 mm. Jammu city recorded 0.6 mm rainfall.
In Kashmir, Srinagar recorded only trace rainfall, while Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kupwara, Kukernag, Gulmarg and Konibal witnessed trace or no measurable precipitation.
The weather office said conditions remained generally cloudy across many parts of the Union Territory and light snowfall could occur over higher reaches during spells of precipitation.
For October 8, the department has forecast generally cloudy weather with light rain at scattered places and light snowfall over higher elevations. Another brief spell of light rain is expected towards the evening of October 9.
Weather conditions are likely to turn more active on October 10, with light rain or snowfall over higher reaches, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at many places, particularly during the morning and forenoon hours.
The department has predicted generally dry weather from October 11 to the evening of October 13. Another wet spell is expected on October 14 and 15, with generally cloudy skies, light rain, snowfall over higher reaches, thunderstorms and gusty winds at many places.
Meanwhile, temperatures remained above normal at several stations.
