Srinagar: Police in Anantnag arrested seven drug peddlers in five separate actions and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.

At Nowshera Crossing near Gujjar Hostel, police arrested one Riyaz Ahmad Hajam of Sirhama, after her personal search yielded 3.52 grams of cannabis and 368 grams of marijuana.

Police intercepted a vehicle (JK01X-3588) coming from Kullar towards the link road leading to Movera, and arrested two persons on board after 90 grams of dried ‘Bhang Bhoosa’, five grams of cannabis were recovered from their possession. Police identified the arrested duo as Fareed Ahmad Chohan and Fayaz Ahmad Doie, both residents of Kharpora Movera.

At Donipawa, police apprehended Junaid Ahmad Sheikh of Sherpora, after five grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

In another case at Nandpora, police apprehended Imtiyaz Ahmed Lone of Seepan, after 2.5 kg of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

Two persons — Zubair Ahmad Dar and Shahid Gulzar, both residents of Batengoo, were arrested at Batengoo Crossing after approximately 350 grams of marijuana was recovered from their possession.

Feroz Ahmad Mir, resident of Litter Pulwama, was arrested by police after 95 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession along with cash amounting to ₹12,050.

Cases under relevant laws have been registered against all these people for further investigation, police said.
